WOW!!!!
Today I had a great
experience. As what I have said on my previous post that I got an internship at
the Embassy Suites Hotel, one of the Hilton branches. The Internship will be
for minimal 80 hours. Every week, my internship activities will be
different because I will do the internship to all departments in the Hotel,
from Housekeeping to Front Desk. So I will get lot of experience in Hotel
industry itself, not only in one department.
In the morning, at 9, I went for my first internship. The hotel is not that far from my apartment. It just took about 25 mins to get there by bus. I was so excited to start my day especially when I met my supervisor, Joy Grant. She is a really friendly person. She works at the hotel for about 15 years. Now she works as an assistant manager of the Hotel. I spent about few minutes with her and decided that for today my internship will be in Housekeeping department. Joy introduced me to the Housekeeping Supervisor, Cierra. She is from Mexico.

Since today is my first
day, I decided that I want to see, observe and help the people from
Housekeeping Department, Room Service. II spent my time from 10 to 2 by helping
Alejandro, Cecile, and Lucia, the housekeepers. in Housekeeping there are two
divisions. First division is for Over Night Stay and the second one is Check
Out. So from 10:00 to 11.15, I helped Cecile by making the bed, clean the
room and do vacuum. Just like my daily activity at my apartments. The only
differences was, there were lot of rooms that we had to clean LOL :D. But I had
a good time there. Then at 11.15 we had break time from until 12.15 for
lunch.
I did not know that I
should bring my lunch to the hotel because I planned to have lunch at 3 at my
apartment. Since Cecile asked me to come with her at the Lunch room, I had to
go with her because the break time was 1 hour. I did not want to spend my time
just sitting without doing anything. So I followed her. Once we got there,
there were about 8 women who are also working at the Housekeeping Department.
Cecile introduced me to her friends with Spanish because most of them are from
Mexico and they do not speak English. Well I also introduced myself with
Spanish like what Rosalia, Juan and Yermi taught me LOL :D. Cecile friends were
surprised to hear that I could introduce myself in Spanish. Thanks to my Ticos
friends LOL. There, everybody had their lunch except me, I did not bring mine
because I planned to have dinner in my apartment. But then all the women in
that room, offered me their food LOL. I felt kind of shy to taste their food,
but since they kept asking me to eat, so I decided to taste the food LOL
Malu-malu kucing hahaha.
When I had lunch with them,
One thing made me surprised. All of Cecile's friends shared their food each
other. They did not eat by their selves. They shared and ate together. I
was surprised to see that. I thought they would just eat whatever food they
brought from home. All my time in the lunch room, I spent by thinking about how
nice and friendly they are. WOW!! I don't have another words to explain how
grateful I am today to have an internship, especially at the Housekeeping
Department. I wish everyday, I would see people like Cecile and her friends. It
is always good to see where people share.
After Lunch, the supervisor
of the Housekeeping department told me that for the next hours, I had to work
with Martha, in Housekeeping Department, Check-out division. Well, I have met
Martha at the Lunchroom. But since she does not speak English so I had to
re-introduced myself, in Spanish again LOL. This time I just realized that I
should be serious with my Spanish class LOL.
I did my work with Marta
for about two and half hours. It was tiring, but I enjoyed it because Martha
was really energetic in doing her job. I helped her in changing the bed sheets,
the pillow, and cleaned the rooms. I also learned how many soaps,
lotion, coffee packages that I should put in one room. I think
since 10 AM until 2 PM, I helped them cleaning about 20 rooms.
Here is the picture of the
room that we cleaned
At 2 PM, I went to see Joy, the
assistant manager, to set my next internship hours. InshAllah I will do my next
internship on Friday after class.

Suites Hotel
I am thankful for my day today because
I could help the Housekeeping Department and learnt few things from them.
Alhamdulillah. Before today, I was always a costumer in a hotel. Made the hotel
room messy and left them just like that. I did not know before how tiring it
was for the Housekeepers to clean 33 rooms in a day. I did not know before that
Housekeepers spent their time from 7.45 AM to 4.30 PM just to clean the
rooms.
So, InshAllah on Friday my internship
will be with the Housekeeping Supervisor to do the inspection in the rooms.
YAY!!! Cannot wait for Friday :) Meanwhile I should improve study
more Spanish so I can communicate with Cecile's friends LOL.
Well, I guess it is time for me to hit
the sack because haven't got rest since I woke up this morning :)
Cee ya,
From Arizona with Love,
Nur
