My Dream of NGO

 Hello World,

Whad up??

I wanna share my story today .  .  . I mean my experience this morning . . .

Did I tell you before that I had a dream since I started to volunteer with the Welcome to America Project in the US when I got Community College Initiative Program scholarship??

I guess I have not . . . well you know whenever I did volunteer in the United States, it always made my day. I always felt happy and satised for volunteering. For one year in the US I did 263 volunteer hours. Since I had got used to do volunteer in the United States for one year, when I came back to Indonesia, everything had changed. In the city where I live now, there is no an NGO that will provide an opportunity for volunteering. I felt really sad and disappointed but one day I was jogging in the morning. I went jogging to one of the city’s tourism site in the city where I live. That time, I saw everything in the site was really dirty. Garbage was everywhere, the bottles of drinks were everywhere and I even saw tampon there. As an Indonesian citizen who just came back from the United States that atime I got shocked, it is more likely reverse culture shock. When I saw the garbage was everywhere, I walked to a guy who was also jogging and listening to the music. I asked him if he knows the people of the government who are in charge with this place. He told me that everyday there is a grandfather who always cleans the tourism site. I asked him if he could take me to meet the grandfather. He then pointed to the grandfather who was cleaning around the street corner. I said thank you to that guy and walked with smile to the grandfather. When I walked there I said good morning to the grandfather. The grandfather smiled and said good morning to me. I then started to ask the government who is in charge with the place. He also explained that he got paid for Rp.800.000/each month. I was really surprised to hear his story because he is really old and he has to wake up and come to work at 3 AM and clean everything in the site everyday because people come to visit the site every night for dating, for relaxing or for an event and they would just throw the garbage wherever they want and he just gets paid Rp. 800.000/each month to clean all the mess. I smiled to him and asked him if I could help him cleaning the site because the site is very dirty and the garbage was all over the site. He smiled and he told me that I should not do it because it is his job. I told the grandfather that I just want to help him and because it is my day off and I don’t have anything to do at my dorm, so it is better for me to help. I insisted. He finally gave me the broomstick. I started to sweep all the garbage and when I was doing it, I almost jumped because I was so happy that I could finally do volunteer like that after 5 months I had not done volunteer since I came back from the United States. When I was sweeping the site, everybody who passed by me, stared and looked at me like I was a kind of crazy woman who did not have anything to do in my life. They looked at me with a surprising face expression, but I just smiled because I knew that they just never seen a person sweeping the site with a courage I had that time.  Honestly when I was doing the volunteer that time, my eagerness to have my own NGO that will give the opportunity for volunteering came up again and I really want to make that dream comes true. I think I will apply a scholarship of PRESTASI because once I read that they give opportunity to study or get master in NGO Management. I am thinking if I get this scholarship, I will have more opportunity to make my dream comes true. I have a plan for the next 2 years once I come back from United States. I will work with the government: Governor or the Meyer to give the opportunity for me. In this, they will have to send letter to all the government or non government like hotels or university or another company. In the letter they will explain that all the people who apply a job in each company should have a volunteer certificate and there would be amount of hours that they should complete. In this case, my NGO will provide the volunteer opportunity for the people who want to do volunteer for education: teaching poor kids, for environment; helping to clean the tourism site or plan trees twice a month, for humanity: provide food for the orphans and play with them, visiting nursing homes and spending quality time with the disable kids just to make them happy. Basically the NGO will provide the volunteer opportunities and also for the certificates that would be given to the volunteer, I will  work on it with the US embassy or Indonesian government because I am sure all the volunteers will be so happy and proud if they get a volunteer certificate from US embassy or from the higher government. Besides that, I will also work together with the Province Tourism Office. Since the tourism office always holds a Tourism Ambassador Competition each year, every candidate of Tourism Ambassador should have the volunteer certificate as well because it is showing that the candidate of tourism ambassadors are not only paying attention to their fashion or beauty but also paying attention to the community and showing that they care about the community. In this case, since I have my best-friend, Hendrik, he would help me to talk with the people at the Tourism Office because he was the Tourism Ambassador in 2010 hahaha and I will get advantage by being friend with a Tourism Ambassador LOL

Really, this is my biggest plan ever and I want to make my dream comes true for the next few months of few years. I want to show the world that Indonesian people are also care each other. But right now I am still confused how to start it. I think I should talk to Megan (the Welcome to America Project Director) and also Allison because I know that they can help me with this since they are experienced with this kind of opportunity. I actually had set up a Skype chat schedule with Megan tomorrow and I cannot wait to listen her suggestions.

Guys, please pray for me so I can make my dream comes true. . . .

Anw, I have to go because I have a schedule for fb chatting with Compita hahaha

We both need to catch up because we have not talked for long time and I just miss to talk to him.

so, I will see you guys and thank you for visiting my blog today :)

Love

Nur
