Hello World,
How have you been?
I wanna share my experience here . . . few days ago when I went to visit my parents
in the village called Pasokan. I went with a big boat which could take about
200 more passengers. It has a mini bar for snacks or coffee. I was sitting and
listening to music when I saw a guy (I think he was from Europe).
He came to
the mini bar and stood there for about 20 minutes. . I saw him and I thought
may be he wanted to buy something for his breakfast . . but the man who was
supposed to be responsible with the mini bar was not there. . . after standing
for about 20 minutes, that guy left the mini bar. I thought he wouldn’t come
back. But he did . . he again stood at the mini bar. This time, the man who was
in charge with the mini bar was busy with ticketing to all the passengers .
. he could not see the tourist who
wanted to buy something so badly. . I
told the man that the tourist might want to buy something.
The man looked at him and say “mau
apa Mr?” (What do you want, Sir?”
The tourist answered with two
Indonesian words which I am pretty sure he learnt for a day “ Kopi Susu” means
mocha. The man just saying some words which I could not understand, he was
whispering I think. Then he continued with his ticket business.
The tourist just stood there and
waited for about 20 minutes. But then the man moved to another side of the boat
to ask the tickets from other passengers without telling anything to the
tourist. . .
When I looked again to the tourist,
he showed with his body language that he was disappointed . . .
Honestly, that time, I felt bad to
see how the man ignored the tourist without any reason.
I keep sitting and thinking “I
should help that tourist . . may be
there was a misunderstanding between the man and the tourist” then I stopped my
music and stood. I went to look for the tourist and asked him if he needs help
(Hahaha I know you guys prolly will think that I asked him after long time, you
guys were right :D I didn’t help him by the time he needed help because I felt
little bit shy to talk in English where 50 passengers stare at you because you
are the only one who can speak English there LOL) I asked him what he wanted to
get. He told me that he wanted to get mocca. That time, I just understand what
happened between the man and him. He wanted to get mocca but he translated
differently. He translated to the man that he wanted “coffe and milk together”.
That’s why the man just ignored him because they don’t have milk there.
I tried to help him getting what he
wanted by taking him again to the mini bar where I could see the man. I
explained that the tourist wanted to get mocca instead of milk and coffee. The
man said “I thought he wanted milk and mocca that’s why I said we don’t have it
here.” I smiled and said that he did not mean coffe and milk but Mocca, he just
did not get the correct Indonesian vocabulary
. . I apologized to the tourist
for what had happened . . . I told him that the man did not understand what he
meant and I said sorry for the misunderstanding (isn’t it funny to see me
apologizing to the things which are not my mistakes???!!! Hahaha that’s the way
I am. I apologize when I feel bad. And alhamdulillah after that, the tourist
could get his coffee.
From what happened there on the
boat, I was thinking to be a volunteer for anybody who wants to learn
English . . . I want to give something
back for my community . . Because they
also need to know English so there won’t be misunderstanding . . . keep my fingers crossed for this plan .
. amin . . .
From Ampana with love,
Nur
