I Have been here in Indonesia for a
week. Feel good to be home. But I still keep experiencing reverse culture shock
every day. First one was not a big
issue. . when I just arrived in Jakarta
from Singapore. As soon as I got off from the airplane at the International
Airport, everything that I never noticed before irritated me this time. . I didn’t know why . . . I think Paul and
Allison were right that we all would experience cultural shock although it’s
our own country because we have been away for a year. . . Isn’t
it funny?!
Well haha see now I beat around the
bush LOL. . So I was saying that the first one was when I get off from the airplane.
. Sanny, Ryan (my folks from Jakarta who
studied with me at Scottsdale Community College) and I were saying Good-Bye
because they had to go to their homes and I had to continue my flight to Palu.
When I said Good-Bye to Sanny, I cried and hugged her tight. . and that time, people were looking at us like
the three of us were aliens hahaha . . . maybe they had never seen people cried
that bad LOL
The second one was when I brought my
3 bags and tried to get in to the shuttle bus that was provided for going to
the domestic terminal but before that, I needed to put all the bags on the shuttle.
. and when I did it, everybody was
looking or probably staring at me and smile like I was a clown with her show
hahaha very funny . . that time, I just
remembered people in the U.S and my group that always offered help whenever
they see people who need help. . but here in my own country, they will just
stared at you and smile . . MON Dieu!!! I wish that culture of the Americans in
helping each other would be brought here to my country . . Well I gotta show
them haha . .
Even when I was on the shuttle, I
put my earphone on and started my music without looking at the passengers or
talking to any of them. But when I lift up my chin, I saw almost all the passengers
were staring at me, again?!! Hahaha I thought something was wrong with me, then
I checked everything, I was okay … may be they were not LOL
The second one was the one that
drove me nuts LOL. It was when I got an invitation to meet the Meyer of my city
at his office (because of the CCIP scholarship LOL). I was scheduled to see him
at 10 AM. But I came earlier at 9.40 I think (my habit to come earlier which I
built in the US LOL). I waited for him in front of his office. While waiting, a
man came with a folder. A tall man with a brown skin and brown jacket. He
entered the room with his cigarette in his hand. I looked at him (well I gave
him strange look because I thought he was not polite to come to the Meyer
office with a smoke of his cigarette). He just entered the room and stand beside
me (I was sitting lol). He stood and smoked beside of me (Dang!! I hate
smokes!!)
After 1 or 2 minutes, he threw his
cigarette on the floor and stepped on it. OMG!!!! That time, I was super
surprised and mad to see what he was doing with his cigarette and I am pretty
sure he saw the way I looked at him. I
looked at him like seriously???!!! It is the Meyer office. Not your own
office!!!
MON DEU!!!
That time, I wanted to teach him
manner haha
I wish I could change the culture of
people who smoke. They need to know where to smoke and where not to. I don’t
understand where they keep their brain. Smoke wherever they want and throw the
cigarettes wherever they want. .
That’s something that this
government and people need to work on together.
